The course is beginning on Sunday evening, Sept 24 and finishing on Saturday morning, Sept 30. The venue will be open from 15:30 pm on Sunday. Every two hours we will be at train station “Nové Hrady” to pick you up and take you to the venue by car (exact times see below). Latest check-out time from the venue is 10:00 am on Saturday 30. That day we will take you back to train station “Nové Hrady” to catch the train leaving at 9:14.
AIR: When arriving at Vaclav Havel airport in Prague look for bus shuttle to Main Railway Station “Praha hl. n.”. Bus stop is in front of both arrival terminals.
TRAIN: From the Praha hl. n. take fast train to České Budějovice and change for direction České Velenice to station Nové Hrady (Praha_hl.n.-Nove_Hrady, Ceske_Budejovice-Nove_Hrady-1) we will await at the station „Nové Hrady“ for trains arriving at 16:45, 18:45 and 20:45 on Sunday (September 24). Venue, meals and accommodation
The venue for the course is pension Kaminek.
We will be accommodated there, as well as have all meals and lectures. Field excursions will be to close surrounding. The place is located 2 km from railway station Nové Hrady and 7 km from small town Nové Hrady. It is isolated place in a forest (48.8138564N, 14.8354011E) so, please, be aware that there will not be possibility neither of shopping nor access to ATM.
We will share rooms for accommodation (usually three persons per room). In the mornings and at noons there will be table for selection (bread, cheese, salami, vegetable, fruits, etc.) and in the evenings hot meal will be served (you will have an opportunity to chose either vegetarian or non-vegetarian). We will have two coffee breakes a day with fruits and cakes. A restaurant is also available in the pension where additional meals and beverages may be purchased. Please have some cash in CZK (in the case of temporal inability to pay with credit card).
Final programme of the course is here. There will be lectures, field excursions and sampling, laboratory practical exercises and also working on mini-projects. For mini-projects we will work in groups (3-4 persons) and on Friday afternoon results of the mini-projects will be presented. During two evenings we will discuss our experiences and future plans with studying of belowground (please see email for details).
All tool or equipment for sampling and analysing will be available at the venue. Connection to Wi-Fi is also available in each room. Please take your laptop with you if possible.
All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
Weather at the end of September might be very changeable in the region. We can expect day temperatures between 10 to 25°C and dry and warm as well as rainy and cold days. Please take waterproof clothes and field boots. Be aware that we will work with soil and you can get muddy. For weather forecast see here.
